Neda Akhavan received her PhD in Ancient Iranian Languages and Cultures from the Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies in 2007 with a thesis entitled “Shahnameh’s Version of History”. She has been assistant researcher in Iranian Studies branch of The Center for the Great Islamic Encyclopedia from 2000 to 2009, and the Center’s associate fellow since 2009. She was head of the Department of History of Art at ARIA from 2011 to 2013. Dr Akhavan is particularly interested in pre-Islamic history of art, culture, mythology, religions, symbolism, and also ancient languages. Dr. Akhavan officially started her position at ARIA as a member of academic staff in History of Art Department in 2010.
